My husband has been on a serious açaí bowl kick lately, and to be honest, I'm not complaining! They're refreshing, delicious, and packed full of healthy ingredients like açaí (duh!), nuts, seeds, and other fruit! The options are pretty endless, but a good place to start is with some high quality, unsweetened açaí, either puréed and frozen or freeze-dried and powdered. The recipe for our go-to version is listed below, but feel free to play around with your favorite superfoods! We love including chia seeds, matcha powder, coconut flakes, and almond butter for a healthy, yet satisfying treat. While artfully arranging the toppings over your smoothie is not necessary, it sure does make for a pretty darn beautiful breakfast or snack! Açaí Bowls:

  • 2 packs açaí purée, frozen

  • 1 banana, frozen

  • 1 cup mixed berries, frozen

  • 2 cups milk of choice (we like coconut or almond)

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 tbsp almond butter

  • 1 tsp maca powder

  • honey or agave nectar, to taste

  • toppings: fresh raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, bananas, coconut flakes, granola, almond butter, matcha powder, chia seeds, hemp hearts, flax seeds, etc.

Blend everything together in a high-powered blender, like a Vitamix. You're going for a thick smoothie consistency, so that it can be eaten with a spoon. Scatter desired toppings across the bowl. Enjoy! Makes two bowls.

I obviously love a baked good, vegan or not. But when a bakery can whip up delicious treats without using butter or eggs, it's pretty impressive. I'd been wanting to try Sweets by Chloe for some time now, and finally stopped by during fashion week on a quick break between shows with a friend. The daily menu consists of several types of cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and breads, all of which are baked from scratch daily. Although the banana cream pie, carrot cake, and cinnamon espresso chocolate chip cookie all looked tempting, we decided on the peanut butter everything cookie and a slice of the matcha chocolate babka. The cookie was super peanut buttery with a nice texture from all the various mix-ins (oats, nuts, raisins), however it could've been baked just a bit less for my taste. The babka, however, was amazing! The subtle hint of matcha paired perfectly with the melted chocolate. I loved pulling it apart layer by layer to reveal more ooey gooey pockets! Doughy and delicious! I can't wait to go back and try the Chill by Chloe ice creams too. How good does coffee ice cream with homemade cinnamon rolls sound, or what about a push pop of salted caramel ice cream with homemade banana bread? Yum!!!


matcha coconut smoothie

I've become obsessed with the matcha, coconut & bergamot smoothie from Greecologies in Soho. Anytime I'm in the area, I can't help but stop in and grab one to-go. It's SO good and I really love the unique flavor profile, but it's also super healthy to boot. Matcha is an antioxidant powerhouse- the powdered green tea has 137 times as many antioxidants as regularly brewed green tea, and in my opinion tastes way better! Plus there are little chewy bits from the dried coconut throughout the smoothie which adds a nice chew-factor. I figured it was time I created my own Greecologies-inspired version at home, and the below recipe totally satisfies my craving for a tasty matcha smoothie. Bergamot oranges can be tricky to find, so I typically make it without. Alternatively, you can add 1/2 cup brewed Earl Grey tea or a couple drops of bergamot essential oil for a delicious twist. I love experimenting with various mix-ins and toppings as well, so feel free to play around with some of the combinations below to see what you like best!

Matcha Coconut Smoothie:

  • 2 cups frozen bananas, sliced

  • 1 cup coconut milk

  • 1/2 cup coconut water

  • 2 tsp matcha powder (I love Matchaful!)

  • 1 cup greens

  • 1/2 cup coconut flakes, unsweetened

  • 2 tbsp crystallized ginger

  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • ice, optional

  • optional mix-ins: 1/2 cup Earl Grey tea, 2 drops bergamot essential oil, 2 Medjool dates, 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp spirulina

  • optional toppings: 1 tbsp coconut flakes, 1 tbsp goji berries

Blend frozen banana, coconut milk, coconut water, matcha powder, greens, coconut flakes, crystallized ginger, and vanilla extract on high until thick and creamy. Feel free to add (any combination of) Earl Grey tea, bergamot oil, Medjool dates, frozen pineapple, cinnamon, or spirulina to the blender as well, and top with coconut flakes and/or goji berries, if desired. Makes 2 smoothies.
