gettin' glam

In general, I don't wear a lot of makeup in my everyday, non-working life. I find that since I wear it so often on shoots, it's nice to give my skin a break & let it breathe on my days off. However, if I'm going out, I will step it up and give myself a bit of that "no-makeup" makeup look. I love a defined brow, curled lashes (with or without mascara), and highlighter on my cheek & brow bones. Below are some of my favorite products- I will use a mix of some or all depending on my mood!

For the face, I love Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer as an overall base. I don't wear foundation, but I like the sheer, lightweight coverage that this provides. Plus there's SPF 20 which is a great added bonus. I use RMS Beauty "un" Cover-Up as a concealer to hide any blemishes or redness. It's coconut oil-based and doesn't clog your pores, so you can feel good about putting it on your skin. The Beauty Blender is a great sponge-like applicator that helps apply & blend your base for natural-looking skin. Make sure to wet it before use and always clean it after! I'm also a huge fan of RMS Beauty Living Luminizer, which I use as a highlighter on the cheek bones (applied with a stippling brush!), brow bones, and cupid's bow after I've applied the rest of my makeup. Lastly, I use a couple spritzes of Caudalie Beauty Elixir so that everything sets together nicely. This is also nice & refreshing whenever your skin needs a pick-me-up throughout the day.

Once the base is applied, I may add a bit of NARS Bronzing Powder to my cheekbones, along the sides of my nose, outer edges of my forehead, and along the jawline. I then use an angled blush brush to apply blush to the apples of my cheeks. NARS Blush in Orgasm is a long-time favorite that seems to flatter every skin tone. I then use a short, blunt brush to blend upwards and outwards.

For the eyes, I keep it pretty simple unless I have a fancy event to attend. I curl my lashes with Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, then apply a couple coats of mascara. Right now I'm using Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara, but I like to switch it up. I will separate any lashes that get clumpy, and brush through my brows with the brow brush. I apply Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel to the brows to fill in any sparse areas, and then add definition with the Dior Eyebrow Pencil. I'm almost out of brow gel, and am anxious to try Glossier Boy Brow  (if it ever comes back in stock!) next.

I usually keep my lips free of color, but highly moisturized. Lately I'm loving Glossier Balm Dotcom, which you can use as a skin salve on cuticles as well. If I want an easy-to-apply color, Clinique Chubby Sticks are a lovely moisturizing mix of mango & shea butters, and I have them in several colors. Every once in a while, of course, I love a strong red lip. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Le Orange is a bright reddish-orange hue that adds a great pop of color to any look.

I frequently get stopped & complimented on my hair. People want to know who does my color, and as much as I'd like to say it's au naturel, all credit goes to Dana Ionato at Sally Hershberger Downtown. She is my go-to girl for the perfect blonde, and has been doing my color consistently for over two years now. Dana uses the balayage technique (no foils!), and we like to keep some darker bits at the root mixed in with the lighter blonde highlights. This adds depth and really makes the color blend together in a natural way. I'd recommend Dana to anyone looking to spruce up their color! Scroll through below for some of my fave fresh-from-the-salon shots!

morning routine

I get a lot of questions about my skincare regimen & what my daily routine is, so I wanted to break it down for you! These are the products I use on any given morning- sometimes it'll be a shortened version if I'm in a hurry, maybe just splashing water on my my face and moisturizing. I realize that all these products may look high maintenance, but I promise the routine goes quickly, and it's definitely worth the effort! I love trying out new things too, so let me know if you have a favorite product for me to try! I've had my Mason Pearson Brush forever- it's great at detangling without breaking or damaging my hair, and it kinda feels like I'm getting a 'lil head massage every time I use it. Throw the Avéne spray and Glossier balm in your bag to keep with you & reapply throughout the day!

I have sensitive skin, so I like to keep my skincare products super clean and minimal in their ingredients. Osmia Organics is a wonderful company that makes a great range of products. This particular set is soothing and full of non-irritating ingredients. The facial soap is made with black Australian clay, Dead Sea mud, organic oils, & coconut milk, and comes with its own soap saver. The gel toner acts as a moisturizing serum with hyaluronic acid & active botanicals. The face cream contains simple, pure ingredients like aloe juice & essential oils.

This is what I like to call the "fresh" section. Pretty self-explanatory- toothpaste and deodorant. I like to keep them more natural when possible (SLS, paraben & fluoride free) so as not to cause any irritation. I love the use of essential oils and lack of antiperspirants in Weleda Sage Deodorant, and Jason Sea Fresh Toothpaste contains blue green algae & both parsley & spearmint extracts to keep you at your freshest.

If I have an extra couple minutes, or feel like quickly pampering myself in the morning, these are my products of choice. Glossier Balm Dotcom has quickly become a favorite, and for good reason. It's a universal salve that can be used on lips, cuticles, or dry skin. I'm dying to try the coconut version. Avéne Thermal Spring Water Spray is a nice way to set everything into the skin, and is also a good refresher throughout the day. I'm currently loving two fragrances by Tom Ford, and switch them up depending on my mood. Violet Blonde has fresh notes of citrus & violet leaf, while Oud Wood is more musty & sexy, with hints of rose wood, cardamom & vetiver.

I try to take these supplements every day to stay as healthy as can be. Oregano oil is one of the most potent natural remedies. It offers intestinal support, supports immune health, and has anti-viral, anti-fungal, & antibiotic properties . Look for one with a high percentage of carvacrol. Dr. Ohira's Probiotics offer a complete probiotic system including prebiotics, enzymes, micronutrients, and organic acids to aid in healthy digestion. They are also shelf-stable and don't require refrigeration due to long-term fermentation, which is an appealing factor to someone like me who is always on the road.

run the world

I travel a lot for work, so I don't always have the convenience of my Pure Barre studio just down the block to get in a good workout. Of course, there are hotel gyms pretty widely available these days, but I sometimes find them to be a bit inadequate or dirty. I think one of the best ways to explore a new city, one that I may not have much of a chance to see otherwise, is to go for a run outside! Since I get the opportunity to shoot in so many beautiful locations worldwide, this can be a great perk, not to mention a nice way to fight jet lag. Bonus points for running along the beach at sunrise, or through the Italian countryside! It also doesn't hurt to have fun exercise gear, like these above from Free People's Movement collection, to motivate you to hit the pavement.

workout routine

I started going to Pure Barre at my local studio in Williamsburg about a year and a half ago. I do have a gym in my apartment building, and before Pure Barre, I was the type who didn't really believe in paying for exercise classes, since I already had a small, but adequate space so close to home. However, I was tempted by the studio's discounted new member special, and haven't looked back since! I've now taken around 300 classes, and feel better than ever about my body. Pure Barre is high-intensity, but low-impact, and I love the focus on small, isometric movements. You end up working tiny little muscle groups that you probably never would have otherwise! The instructors at the Williamsburg studio are great- they learn your name quickly, are super encouraging, and are very helpful when it comes to hands-on corrections. We work each muscle group, from arms to thighs to butt to abs, and stretch in between while the muscles are warm to promote long & lean muscles. I'm definitely much stronger and more flexible now than I ever have been. Trust me, my splits used to be a straddle, or in other words non-existent, but now I can easily do the splits on both sides! If you've never tried them before, I highly recommend barre-style workouts. My studio also recently launched Platform classes, which add a great cardiovascular aspect to your typical Pure Barre workout. I've only taken a few Platform classes so far, but am already starting to love it! Stay tuned to the GLOW page for a Get Fit with Britt demo series coming soon, and lets "lift. tone. burn" together!

britt's picks // aesthetician

I started going to Hillery Sklar for facials a few years ago, and quickly become a devoted customer, as have many others. From cleansing to steam to extractions to mask to the final massage, it's a good 'ol classic facial from start to finish. But one that continues to leave my skin glowing time after time. I make sure to schedule my next appointment as soon as we finish my current treatment, as Hillery books up way in advance. She also uses highly effective products I love, from Mario Badescu and OSea, and treats both men & women! I especially love the high-frequency machine, which can improve the skin's complexion, reduce fine lines & wrinkles, and help to treat & prevent acne. My skin never fails to look (and feel!) fresh & rejuvenated after a facial treatment with Hillery. It's always a relaxing & enjoyable experience, and I'm glad to call her a friend.
